An offering to the gods...

Let us pray:

O great gods of Guitar Hero,
Calm my nerves in my upcoming time of need.
Allow my reflexes to be as sharp as a ninja's blade
and my timing to be as good as that of a metronome.
Protect me from heathen hand-cramps
and help me vanquish thine enemy so that I can win a wicked-sweet electric guitar.
Amen.

Alrighty, now that that's taken care of I'll explain. I am in a Guitar Hero tournament on the weekend. The grand prize is an electric guitar, an amp and lessons, worth about $1000 in total. I hope I win but I'm not gonna get my hopes up too high. There's some pretty crazy people out there. Anyhow, I did this all in photoshop and it's kinda rough but I was just messing around and trying to use some of the tools I hadn't used before.

Also, you know that guy Kiko who makes the Penny-Arcade t-shirts? Of course you don't, but anyways I'm pretty sure he's in my head. He made the most perfect t-shirt for me, and I swear I have almost the same drawing in my binder, except for with a whole guitar (hero controller...). It has blue flames and everything! Needless to say, it's in the mail.

Life Cubed

Finally got around to scanning a good two pictures. Yep, I've been busy.
Anyways, not quite sure what I was thinking with this one. I must have just been in one of those moods...

Cartoon Series: Justin

Note: The pics have been removed because they sucked. See the edited version here.

This is supposed to be Justin. He's a ninja... a lazy ninja... one might even say he is the world's laziest. Anyhow, he's funny guy, and can make this really awesome face. If you've seen it you know what I'm talking about. My theory is that when he makes that face, it's really just a distraction while he's taking care of ninja business going on behind our backs. Oh, what a guy.

He also has what is referred to as a "Fish Patch". It's the new thing. Spread the word.

P.S. Who should I do next? Kieran, Anis or Morgan?

Cartoon Series: Fish

It's Fish!...FAT FISH! I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. I was going for Pac-Man with fins and a "Fish Patch". The real Justin Fisher cartoonification will be posted tomorrow... Assuming I finish coloring it.

Oh, and if you haven't noticed, I kinda gave up my "post a picture everyday" thing and am now doing the "post a picture whenever I feel like it" thing. This will still mean lots of pictures, just less crappy ones.

Cartoon Series: Mackenzie

Note: The pics have been removed because they sucked. See the edited version here.

Anyhow, for those of you who don't know her, she's a cool/artsy/indie/weird in a good way kinda girl. She's very colorful, inside and out, and is about a bajillion times better artist than myself. The (admittedly very lame) joke to this one is that she often comes back from art class with charcoal all over her fingers, cause no matter how many times she washes her hands it just won't come off.

Oh and Fish, you're next :P

[EDIT: Changed it a bit... MacKenzie just doesn't look quite right without a smile haha. Also, more hair looks slightly better... something is still seems a little off but it looks better :P]

Party Panda!!

Yup... This is something I drew on my binder... it wasn't originally supposed to be a party panda but I screwed up a bit and so that's what I turned it into. Yep... I still haven't scanned anything new...

Oh, and if by chance Mackenzie's reading, I tried cartoonifying you, and I have the lines done, but I still need to color it. Tomorrow maybe? In any event you're kinda hard to draw haha...

Random Stuff

Sorry, nothing real cool today, just some random sketches. I've been too buzy/lazy to scan some stuff recently. Anyhow, I'll hopefully have another cartoon person made tomorrow.

Cartoon Series: Jay

LinesColor and Shading

For those of you who don't know him, this is supposed to be Jay. He's a cool guy who wears his Nordiques toque whenever possible. He also eats chips like nobody's business and doesn't care who has to clean up the crumbs! Ironically enough, a Doritos bag matches his hat perfectly (seriously Jay, check it out). Coincidence? I think not.

[EDIT: Apparently his eyebrows aren't blonde... who knew?]

Cartoon Series: Me

LinesColor
Shading and Background

Alrighty, so one night I decided I was gonna try and cartoonify myself and some of my friends. So far I kinda have plans for 5 more, then depending on how much I'm liking doing them I might do more. Also, I'm gonna try and make them kinda funny, like how this one shows that I'm pretty much a japanese school girl at heart. Anyhow, I'm doing them 100% on the computer, with Flash and Photoshop. I'm also using super-simple coloring meaning they'll look more cartoony and also take about an hour or less to color (this one took me a little less than an hour to color, and now that I know how I'm gonna do it, it should only get faster). Anyhow, here it is.

The Dance - Colored!

Warning: Long Post Ahead! If you just wanna see the end result then skip to the end.

Anyhow, I colored this one and I think it turned out quite nicely. For some reason or another I decided it would be cool to show you kinda the process of how I did it and the layers in the final piece. Soo... Here it is!

1. With the picture imported into Flash, I drew lines, and saved as two files, one with a background and one without.
2. Here is the pic without the background. I end up putting these into photoshop as separate layers, with a coloring layer in the middle. The background is still there and acts as kind of a guide for coloring, and since I have a layer with lines in front, it means I can't color over top of the lines I already have, it just colors behind them.
3. So I add some basic colors. I actually think it looks pretty good without any shading at all.
4. Now I'll just show you how it ends up layering in the final product. First we have the background. It's a pretty simple background, just adding a bit of color and smudging, then adding the dots for the disco ball. Then I added a radial blur, with the center being where the ball would be to make it look like the light is moving. I did a bit more smudging at the bottom to try and make it look a bit like the light was on a different surface when it was on the floor.
5. I then made another layer overtop of the last one. I used black with low opacity (transparent) so that each time i color, it makes the stuff I've already colored on darker than stuff I haven't. Doing this, I made the stuff by the ball the lightest, then right behind the ball, I added some bright color. Then It was just a matter of smudging some of that color out and some of the black off.
6. Now here is how it looked after it was all colored, without the lines. This is a fairly straight forward process of adding lines of darker color for shadows, then using the blur to make them stand out a bit less. I also put some color in the hair and smudge with the grain to make it look more real(ish)...
7. Here it is, lines and all. Just one more step.
8. To finish it off, I added a yellow spotlight on the color layer, originating from the disco ball. This just makes them fit in a bit more with their surroundings and whatnot. I think it turned out pretty well over all.

Last year's binder, backside

This is a side of my binder from last year. I took out some stuff on it because it either wasn't me who drew it or it sucked and I don't want people to see it. In any event, there's a couple decent looking drawings on it. I'll post the other side another day (which is mostly graffiti type stuff, but has one I like), since the scan I have of it is sucky and also not of the whole binder.

Right now, I'm also just about done coloring another picture (my most complicated and time consuming one to date) as well as making cartoon versions of myself and my friends, which will eventually get colored in a very simple style (cause the cartoons are supposed to be simple). Right-o then, Peace1

The Mohawk

Yea... not gonna lie. This one kinda sucks. Oh well, I'm working on cartoonifying people I know so we'll see how that goes. Until then, Cheers.

The Binder... OF DOOM!

Ok... not so much doom... a bit more... random. Anyhow, this is what the front of my binder looks like. It looks kinda wonkey near the bottom cause I had to put two pictures together (it wouldn't fit on the scanner) and I was much too lazy to make it look proper. There is some good stuff, and some very, very bad stuff. There is also a lot of video game references. A LOT. See if you can find them all :)

The back side of my binder sucks by the way. I'll have to get drawing on it more.

Arrr...

It's supposed to be a pirate, one of the female variety. I had it like... half drawn and in my clip board for the longest time but since I never use my clip board... anyhow, I saw it and decided to finish it.

The Boxing Kangaroo... Colored

I asked Rylan which picture I should color. He picked pretty much my worst drawing on here XD. I'm happy though cause he said it made him laugh. Here it is all spiffied up and colored. Anyhow, I colored it completely in photoshop... which froze half way through making me restart [ANGRY]. It's a little rough around the edges but it's supposed to be kinda cartoony so.. yea, enjoy.

Bowser's Goons

As you can see, Bowser's goons aren't very coordinated...

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!!!

It's supposed to be a soccer goalie.

Boo!

No, I'm not trying to scare you, I'm talking about Boo from Megatokyo. I love that webcomic and he's my favorite character. Here's a couple of drawings of him.

Another Furry Creature

Here is another furry creature. On a side note, I'm running out of material, cause although I have lots of random drawings, I've pretty much only posted stuff I like up until now and posting what I consider to be crappy doodles would bring down the overall quality of some of the stuff on here. We'll see how long I can keep up with this once a day thing, but when I actually have work and stuff to do, usually drawings don't get made...

Furry Creature

I draw lots of random furry little animals sometimes. Here is one. I had to darken it on the comp so it's easy to see.

Buz the Phagocyte

This is Buz pretending to be a white blood cell. Yes she really did do that in class. In fact she told us to draw a picture if we wanted. I did. It's true what she says though, I probably won't forget that any time soon...

Kangaroo.

Yes, it is a boxing kangaroo in polka-dotted boxer shorts. Thanks for noticing.

Fun Fact: If you ever box a kangaroo, pay no attention to the boxing gloves. It'll just end up kicking you in the teeth :)

Richard Parker

I drew this for english sometime last semester. It had to do with the Life of Pi. Taylor later told me that I had drawn a female tiger (it was supposed to be male)... something to do with the stripes on the face. How embarrassing.

Sleepy?

I'm pretty sure I was kinda tired when I drew this, some classes just tend to make me tired. Anyhow I did stay the night over at teh school last night for the famine. It was fun. It may have been more fun if I had pajamas like that and kitty slippers but it was a good time nonetheless. Lots of video games and activities... just no eating for 24 hours... which surprisingly wasn't too bad.

The O. Canada Saga

For english last semester, we were told to create a very canadian product. As such, our group came up with an super canadian lumber jack action figure named Orlando Canada. He ALWAYS wears skates, has a hockey stick with a canadian flag attached, and caries maple syrup in his front pocket. My group got me to draw some sketches and then Jay McCrae (the real mastermind of the project) created him using a G.I. Joe. It basically turned out awesome.

One of a few concept sketches.

The actual action figure created by Jay McCrae.
Me doing a little bit of image editing to get the final poster.

Rokk Out!!

There's totally gonna be a Guitar Hero II tournament at the famine tomorrow. Needless to say, I'm excited.
